Ford India has officially revealed, rather previewed, the Figo-based crossover that we saw in the spy shots a month ago. Named ‘Freestyle’, the Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) as Ford likes to call it, will be launched in the second quarter of 2018.
As for the design, the front has been reworked, which begins with the smoked headlamps. The grille features a thick black surround and gets honeycomb pattern. The bumper has been reworked as well with a quality-looking skid plate. The vehicle gets body cladding all around, and roof rails, adding to the crossover appeal.
Last but not the least, the ORVMs have been blacked-out, and side profile has body graphics. The Freestyle rides on a new set of alloy wheels.
In Ford’s words, the Freestyle “is designed for those who follow their heart and live life with no regrets.”
Interiors get 6.5-inch Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system featuring navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Powering the Freestyle will be a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol from the Dragon series, producing 96 PS of power and 120 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a new 5-Speed manual transmission. The new petrol engine is claimed to offer an outstanding fuel efficiency. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel is expected to be offered as well.
The Freestyle is also expected to feature a sports tuned suspension, similar to Figo Sports Edition.
Not much information is available at the moment, but the Freestyle will feature Active Rollover Prevention (ARP) system that allows the car to take sharp, hairpin bends even at speeds as high as 100 Km/h and with roof load of up to 50 kg.
