Mercedes-Benz India has added a new diesel variant to the E-Class lineup named E 220 d, priced at Rs 57.14 lakh, ex-showroom, Pune. Similar to the E 350 d that was launched in February, the E 220 d is also a long wheelbase variant, and is a replacement for the previous-gen E 250 d.

The E 220 d is powered by a new ‘Made in India’ OM 654 series 2.0 litre (1,950 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged unit, producing 195 hp (143 kW) @ 3,800 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,600 – 2,800 rpm, paired to a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The new engine is claimed to be 17% lighter and 13% more fuel efficient than the previous 2.1 litre (2,143 cc) unit. 0 – 100 km/h sprint happens in 7.8 seconds and maxes out at 240 km/h.
There’s a Dynamic Select Drive with E, C, S, S+, I modes to choose from.
Features wise, the E 220 d is a diesel equivalent to the E 200 petrol. Few standard equipment include LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, 17-inch 5-spoke alloys, Artico leather-clad interiors, 12.3-inch COMAND display, smartphone Integration Package with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering mounted touchpad (claimed to be the world’s first), 64-colour Ambient Lighting, 3-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, 7 airbags, ABS, ESP, Acceleration Skid Control (ASR), Attention Assist and so on. The E 220 d misses out on Air Body Control air suspension, 360 degree camera, Burmester surround sound system and few more features.
