Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan compact crossover in India at Rs 27.68 lakh ex-showroom, Mumbai. The Tiguan is Volkswagen’s first MQB product in India, and comes in ‘Comfortline’ and ‘Highline’ variants. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is standard in both the aforementioned variants.

The Tiguan in its second generation made its debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, and the production was started in March this year at the Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. Built on the MQB platform, the second-gen Tiguan is 50 kg lighter than the previous-gen model.
Powertrain
The Tiguan is available only with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TDI engine, producing 143 PS (141 bhp) at 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of torque between 1,750-2,750 rpm, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system gets Driving mode selector with 5 modes – Comfort, Normal, Eco, Sport and Individual. The fuel efficiency of this engine is claimed at 17.06 km/l.
Features
The Tiguan packs a big list of features. These include LED automatic headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillamps, heated ORVMs with memory and 18-inch alloys (17-inch for Comfortline) on the outside. On the inside, there is keyless entry with push-button start, heated front seats, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, 3-zone climate control, cruise control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, panoramic glass roof with LED surround lighting,
Safety
The Tiguan has scored a 5-Star rating in the Euro NCAP. Safety kit includes dual front airbags, curtain airbags, front side airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with driver steering recommendation, Driver alert system, reversing camera, Hill descent control, Active hood, self-sealing tires, rain sensor, front fog lamps with cornering lights, rear fog lamps and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Suspension
Front is a McPherson strut with lower transverse link and stabilizer bar; rear is a Multi-Link setup.
Dimensions
The Tiguan measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,672 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,677 mm and ground clearance is at 149 mm. Boot capacity measures 615 litres with all seats up and 1,655 litres with rear seats folded. Fuel tank capacity is 71 litres.
Colours
There are five colors to choose from – Tungsten Silver, Atlantic Blue, Deep Black, Oryx White and Indium Grey.
The Tiguan will rival the established names such as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
