The sixth-gen Volkswagen Polo which was spotted undisguised in South Africa in March, makes a camouflaged appearance in an official video which also appears to have been shot in South Africa. The new Polo is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.
Since 1975, over 14 Million Polos have been sold. The sixth-gen model is built on the MQB (A0) platform, which also underpins the Seat Ibiza. The new platform has made the Polo a bit larger than before. Reportedly, the car now measures 4,053 mm long (current – 3,971 mm), 1,751 mm wide (current – 1,682 mm) and 1,446 mm in height. Wheelbase has been stretched by 95 mm, and now measures 2,564 mm. If those numbers are true, the new Polo wont fall under the sub-4m category. However, for the Indian market, VW India might retain the current length.
Four engines are expected to be offered internationally, including a 1.5 litre TSI and new 1.0 litre 3-cylinder TSI.
