After an exhaustive teaser campaign, Tata Motors unveils its first sports car ‘Racemo’ created under the new sub-brand TAMO, at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show.
Tata Motors says that the Racemo is built on a patented structural technology (platform) named MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) structure, which enables greater freedom in surface design, efficient large-scale part integration leading to modularity and faster time to market. Racemo is also available to play on Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 3.
The front fascia features LED headlamps, and LED DRLs which also appears to double as turn signals. The rear-end features LED tail lamps and a centrally mounted exhaust. Being a sports car, there’s an aggressive diffuser as well.
Interiors appear very futuristic with aircraft-inspired design elements. There are triple displays in front of the steering wheel displaying various information, and will also feature Microsoft’s connectivity solutions. The start/stop button is mounted on the steering wheel. Racemo’s doors open à la McLaren’s.
Powering the Racemo is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine, with an output of 190 hp at 6,500 rpm and 210 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. Transmission is taken care of by a 6-speed AMT with paddle shifters, sending power to the rear wheels. The Racemo is claimed to do 0 – 100 km/h acceleration in under 6 seconds.
The car measures 3,835 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,208 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,430 mm, and ground clearance is at 165 mm. The fuel tank can carry 40 litres. The Racemo rides on 17-inch and 18-inch wheels front and rear respectively, shod with 205/50 and 235/45 tyres.
The Racemo is designed at the Company’s Design Studio in Turin, Italy. Expected to be launched in the Indian market by early 2018, and is rumored to be produced in limited numbers.
