Lotus is in the news after a long time, and for a good reason. The Sprint edition of the Elise weighs just 798 kg dry, thanks to the carbon bits which shave off 41 kg.
The Elise Sprint’s lightweight construction includes carbon race seats and lightweight forged alloy wheels, which save 6 kg and 5 kg respectively, while the carbon access panel, roll hoop cover, engine cover, and polycarbonate rear screen save 6 kg. The lithium-ion battery saves 9 kg. Collectively they cut an impressive 26 kg. The optional two-piece brake discs and the carbon sill covers further cut off 4 kg and 0.8 kg respectively.
Elise Sprint
This reduction in weight translates into quicker acceleration, with 0 – 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and 4.1 seconds for the Elise Sprint and Elise Sprint 220 respectively.
Lotus says that the 1.8-litre supercharged motor is the best-sounding 4-cylinder car on the market. There’s also a choice of 1.6L naturally aspirated unit as well. The former produces 217 hp and 250 Nm while the latter generates 134 hp and 160 Nm of torque. Top speed is rated at 204 km/h and 233 km/h for the Sprint and Sprint 220, respectively.
Priced at £37,300 for the Sprint and £44,300 for the Sprint 220.
