If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki has planned to launch the Baleno RS in February 2017. The company’s original plan was to launch both the Ignis mini crossover and Baleno RS by festive season this year, but was postponed to 2017. Few days ago, the Ignis was listed on Nexa website and the company is collecting information from the interested customers. While the Ignis’ launch date is reportedly on Jan 13th, official information on Baleno RS is yet to be out.
For those who are new, the “Baleno RS” is a performance version of the Baleno hatchback, and was unveiled as concept alongside the Ignis at 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year.
The Baleno RS will be powered by a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbocharged “Boosterjet” engine, producing 111 ps of power @ 5500 rpm and 170 Nm of torque @ 2,000 – 3,500 rpm. These figures are from the UK version of Baleno. Not sure if the company retains them for India as well.
Both the Baleno RS and Ignis will be sold via Maruti’s Nexa outlets.
