Does that mean a Kia version is also in the works?
Well, apparently, sedans are not completely dead in India, as Hyundai is all set to launch the next-generation Verna sedan (6th-gen globally, 5th-gen for India) in the country. It looks like the Virtus–Slavia duo inspired Hyundai India to not kill the sedans just yet. But anyway, bookings are officially open if you’re interested to get one. While we wait for the full reveal (on March 21, 2023), let’s take a brief look at the teaser sketches that give us a pretty good idea of the sedan’s styling.
Speaking of which, it has all the traits to be another box office hit for Hyundai, isn’t it? I mean, the Hyundai-Kia design team led by Peter Schreyer continues to deliver future-proof, stunning designs. The front fascia is gonna feature a full-width light bar, and underneath it, you’ve a rather large grille flanked by the headlight units. The side profile with its sharp character lines, creases and wheel design give me the Elantra-ish vibes, and you can expect the rear fascia to be just as sharp with a full-width light bar.
Hyundai didn’t share a ton of details, but said that the new Verna is gonna offer a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 6-speed manual and CVT options, and for driving enthusiasts, there’ll also be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT options.
