Porsche has revealed the upgraded 99X Electric, the 99X Electric Gen3, all set to make its Formula E debut on 14 January 2023 in Mexico City. The new car complies with Formula E Gen3 regulations.
Which means the new car has got two motors—one at the front and another at the rear, with 250 kW (340 metric hp) and 350 kW (476 metric hp) outputs, respectively. The max power output, however, is capped at 350 kW—up from Gen2’s 250 kW. Why only 350 kW? Well, because, the front motor is not driving the front wheels, but is employed for regeneration. Which means the regen capability is now up to 600 kW—up from Gen2’s 250 kW. The top speed is now capped at 320 km/h (199 mph) versus Gen2’s 280 km/h (174 mph). There’ll also be a friction brake controlled by a brake-by-wire unit.
The electric motor achieves about 95% power efficiency compared to around 40% for an internal combustion engine. Over 40% of the energy used is recuperated via regenerative braking, Porsche added in an official statement.
António Félix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein are gonna pilot the new Porsche 99X Electric Gen3.
