Honda has taken the wraps off the 6th gen CR-V for the U.S. market, scheduled to launch this summer. The new CR-V will launch with a turbo petrol engine, followed by a hybrid powertrain later this year. This time around, there’s gonna be EX, EX-L, Sport and Sport Touring trims to choose from.
The 6th gen CR-V is built around the same platform as the 11th gen Civic, which is probably why the new CR-V kinda looks sporty compared with the outgoing model. You got slim LED headlights at the front, while the taillights at the rear are kinda similar to the existing ones but sharpened up with J-shaped light signatures inside.
EX and EX-L trims feature a gloss black grille mesh with a chrome surround; body-colored side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and standard 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. The Sport and Sport Touring trims feature a more aggressive styling with dark accents and rectangular exhaust finishers. The underside of the rear spoiler is matte black on Sport and gloss black on Sport Touring. Also, the CR-V Sport rides on trim-specific Berlina Black 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, while Sport Touring rides on black 19-inch split 5-spoke alloy wheels.
For those interested to know the dimensions, the 6th gen CR-V measures 4,694 mm long (184.8-inch), 1,864 mm wide (73.4-inch) and 1,692 mm tall (66.6-inch), with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (106.3-inch).
Key features inside depending on the trim include a 7-inch driver display; a 9-inch touchscreen with a physical volume knob; wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity; 15-watt wireless smartphone charging pad; a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system; USB-A & USB-C ports; 8-way power driver’s seat; 4-way power passenger seat, and reclining rear seats.
The so-called new Body Stabilizing Seats at the front are claimed to reduce fatigue over long drives, and the steering wheel angle is more sedan-like for a more comfortable, sportier driving experience.
CR-V Sport comes with exclusive black cloth upholstery and black dash trim, while the Sport Touring comes with either black or gray leather seating surfaces and piano-black dash trim. Both Sport and Sport Touring come standard with a black headliner and orange contrast stitching on the seats (black leather or cloth), console, steering wheel and shifter.
As for safety and driver assistance, the new CR-V comes with a Honda Sensing suite featuring a new wide-angle camera and millimeter-wave radar. The new camera features a 90-degree field of view, while the radar has a 120-degree field of view. This means improved collision prevention performance. Assistance systems include Blind spot information; Traffic Jam Assist; Low-Speed Braking Control; Traffic Sign Recognition; Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow; Lane Keeping Assist; Driver Attention Monitor; Rear Seatbelt Reminder, and Rear Seat Reminder.

As for the powertrain options, you have a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 142 kW (193 metric hp/190 bhp) at 6000 rpm and 243 Nm (179 lb-ft) of torque between 1700 and 5000 rpm. The engine is coupled with a CVT.
If you prefer a hybrid instead, there’s one option that combines a 2.0L 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a pair of electric motors that are now mounted side-by-side. This new configuration is claimed to offer increased torque output. Combined figures are 152 kW (207 metric hp/204 bhp) and 335 Nm (247 lb-ft). Transmission is a CVT.
AWD option will be available on all trims, but is standard on Sport Touring; the system can now send up to 50% of engine torque to the rear wheels. And for the first time, the CR-V features Hill Descent Control, standard across the lineup.
