Besides its handsome looks and an affordable starting price tag, another key aspect that sealed the Nissan Magnite‘s success here in India was receiving a 4-star rating by ASEAN NCAP just a month after its launch in India. I know, the rating wasn’t applicable for the Indian market, but the consumers here assumed that since the crossover is being built at the Chennai facility for the export markets as well, it shouldn’t be any different for the local market. The Magnite and its French cousin Renault Kiger were eventually crash tested by Global NCAP recently, in which both scored 4 stars in the adult occupant category.

It’s a pretty good achievement then, in less than 15 months of its launch, the production has crossed the 50,000 mark; not to mention it was launched in December 2020—the time when the pandemic was showing no signs of ever going away, and of course, the semiconductor chip crisis.
Besides India, the India-made Magnite is available in South Africa, Indonesia, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zambia, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Malawi.
