BMW has released the latest software update (version 21-07) which adds functions and functional improvements on models running iDrive 7. The update includes refinements to the Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), and key detection.
LDW’s sophisticated detection logic lets the vehicle know when it is on a narrow road without a center marking and suppresses steering intervention. This prevents the vehicle from veering off towards the middle of the road, when there is oncoming traffic, for example. The RTTI in maps now also processes data from congestion on turning lanes and thus offers optimized routing as well as a more accurate prediction of the arrival time.
The update also includes an advanced volume control for Android smartphones connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth, which is claimed to offer an enhanced sound experience for streaming music or podcasts. Finally, improvements in key detection mean the driver can now be recognized even when they don’t have their keyfob in their pocket or hand; for example, if it’s in a purse or briefcase on the passenger’s side or on the second-row seats.
Improved sound experience for M3 and M4
Also, BMW claims to have refined the engine starting and gear shifting sounds on M3 and M4 models equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Of course, the sound characteristics change as per the driving modes: Efficient/Sport/Sport Plus.
New features from Spotify and Pandora
Podcast playlists on Spotify are now available in the vehicle through BMW Connected Music. Logging in via the Spotify app in the vehicle and BMW Connected Music automatically activates this feature. And, MY2022 BMWs equipped with SiriusXM with 360L now offer Pandora stations. Owners and lessees receive a 12-month subscription to the SiriusXM Platinum Plan with the purchase or lease of any new SiriusXM-equipped BMW vehicle.
Last but not the least, BMW claims to have upgraded its news app with personalized, intelligent filtering of news, significantly higher audio quality and the introduction of news feeds.
