Claimed to be the first plug-in hybrid in this segment with all-wheel-drive
The W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class plug-in hybrid model has now got a 4Matic (all-wheel-drive) variant and is available to order in Germany, with prices starting at €130,638.20. With that, the new S-Class PHEV offers four variants including standard and long wheelbase:
Variant | German prices |
S 580 e | €126,830.20 |
S 580 e 4Matic | €130,638.20 |
S 580 e LWB | €130,519.20 |
S 580 e 4Matic LWB | €134,327.20 |
The S 580 e powertrain comprises a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine and an electric motor (permanently excited synchronous motor) nestled between the ICE and the 9-speed automatic gearbox. The ICE pumps out 270 kW (367 metric hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, while the e-motor offers an additional 110 kW (150 metric hp) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque. The system output however, is 375 kW (510 metric hp). Both standard and LWB models are claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, should such things interest you in a limousine.
We are not sure of the battery pack capacity (29 kWh according to reports), but Mercedes claims a pure electric range of anywhere between 93 and 112 km (58-70 mi). Its electric top speed is claimed to be 140 km/h (87 mph). The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 60 kW.
