Latin NCAP: 0 for Suzuki Baleno, 1 star for Toyota Yaris sedan

Latin NCAP has crash tested India-made Suzuki Baleno and Thailand/Brazil-made Toyota Yaris sedan, which have scored nothing and a single star, respectively.

Suzuki Baleno
The tested model was equipped with front airbags, seat belt pretensioner and loadlimiter, driver seat belt reminder, and rear Isofix mounts.

Adult Occupant Protection
In the adult occupant protection category, the report said that the protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. Driver and passenger chest showed adequate protection. Driver and one passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia, while the passenger’s other knee showed good protection. Driver tibias showed adequate protection, and passenger’s tibias showed good protection.

But strangely, the report adds that the footwell area was stable and the bodyshell was also stable and was capable of withstanding further loadings.

The report further said that the side pole test was not performed since the car does not offer side head protection as standard. Whiplash performance was rated as poor. And, the car cannot prove UN R32 rear impact structure requirements.

Child Occupant Protection
In the child occupant protection category, the report said that the child seat for a 3-year-old child was installed rearward facing using Isofix anchorages and support leg, and was capable of preventing excessive forward movement of the head. Frontal and side impact protection was good. The Q1.5 was installed rearward facing using Isofix mounts and a support leg, and it offered good protection for the frontal and side impacts. Since the manufacturer declined to recommend CRSs for the test, the dynamic score was 0, the report added.

Toyota Yaris sedan
The tested model was equipped with front airbags, seat belt pretensioner and loadlimiter, seat belt reminder (driver and front passenger), rear Isofix mounts, and ESC.

Adult Occupant Protection
In the adult occupant protection category, the report said that the protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. Driver’s chest showed marginal protection while passenger’s chest showed good protection. Driver and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia. Driver’s tibias showed good and adequate protection and passenger’s tibias showed good protection.

The report adds that the footwell area was unstable and the bodyshell was also unstable and was not capable of withstanding further loadings.

The report further said that the side pole test was not performed since the car does not offer side head protection as standard. Whiplash performance was rated as marginal. And, the car meets UN R32 rear impact structure requirements.

In the child occupant protection category, the report said that the child seat for a 3-year-old child was installed rearward facing using Isofix anchorages and support leg, and it was capable of preventing head exposure, and frontal crash protection was good. Side impact protection was good.
