The electric car tsunami has made us almost forget the good old naturally aspirated sports cars. And so, Audi has rolled out some updates for the R8, reminding us what we are gonna miss in the next decade or so. These updates are similar to the updates rolled out for the North American market in April 2021.
What that means is, the base quattro and RWD models—both in Coupé and Spyder, are replaced by Performance variants. Now the R8 has a simplified lineup of R8 Coupé V10 Performance quattro, R8 Coupé V10 Performance RWD, R8 Spyder V10 Performance quattro and R8 Spyder V10 Performance RWD.
What that also means is that in the Performance RWD, the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 motor offers 419 kW (570 metric hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque—an increase of 30 metric hp and 10 Nm compared with the previous base models. The Performance quattro models offer 456 kW (620 metric hp) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque.
The RWD Coupé weighs 1,590 kg (3,505 lbs) and claims a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 329 km/h (204 mph). The RWD Spyder on the other side weighs 105 kg (231 lbs) more and therefore claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 327 km/h (203 mph).
Another update is the availability of Dynamic steering on RWD models for the first time. It is claimed to offer even more precise reaction and feedback.
Prices in Germany for the updated RWD variants start at €149,000 for the Coupé and €162,000 for the Spyder.
