Three leading commercial vehicle manufacturers — Daimler Trucks, Traton Group and Volvo Group have signed a non-binding agreement to install and operate a high-performance public charging network for battery electric heavy-duty long-haul trucks across Europe. A future joint venture (JV) — equally owned by the three parties, is expected to start operations in 2022.
The companies will initially invest €500 million to set up 1,700 high-performance charging points close to highways as well as at logistic and destination points, within 5 years from the establishment of the JV. In the future, the JV will be open to additional partners to help increase the number of charging points over time. This is pretty similar to the Ionity network, but for commercial vehicles.
The upcoming JV will be headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
