20 kg heavier than the windscreen-less Elva.
Remember McLaren Elva? The roofless, windscreen-less speedster which debuted in late 2019, is entering production with a windscreen. Wait. What?! Well, yea, McLaren had announced that the Elva can also be had with a windscreen, and I think this version looks even better. What not-so-better is that McLaren has cut down the production run from 249 to 149 units.
In case you didn’t notice, the windscreen version loses the Active Air Management System (AAMS) — a little blade-like thing that pops up from the bonnet to make the occupants a little more comfortable. Since the AAMS becomes a redundant thing here, the bonnet has been cleaned up which adds to the overall cleaner looks of the car.
While McLaren is yet to share the full technical details, it said that the windscreen version is only 20 kg (44 lbs) heavier despite the inclusion of rain-sensing wipers, washer jets, sun visors, besides, of course, the heated glass windscreen within a carbon fibre frame. McLaren is targeting a dry weight of less than 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs).
