The Delhi government has ended up delisting the Tata Nexon EV, following a show cause notice issued to the company earlier in February 2021 over a complaint from a customer that the vehicle is not offering the claimed range. In Delhi, the EV was entitled to a maximum incentive of INR 1,50,000.
Delhi govt has decided to suspend subsidy on a EV car model, pending final report of a Committee, due to complaints by multiple users of sub-standard range performance. “We are committed to support EVs, but not at the cost of trust & confidence of the citizens in claims by manufacturers,” Delhi Transport minister Kailash Gahlot said on Monday. The govt order mentions only a single complaint from a person named Rajesh Kumar, who alleges that he never got a range beyond 200 km (124 mi) despite following various advices from the dealer. Tata Motors claims a range of over 300 km (186+ mi) from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
While it is true that the range regardless of an EV or ICE-powered vehicle, depends on various factors such as the individual driving style, usage of air conditioner/climate control, and road/traffic conditions, this person alleges to be getting significantly less range than what he’s supposed to. Also, it seems a dumb move from the Delhi govt to delist the vehicle based on just a single complaint. People on the internet are suspecting rivals’ handiwork.
