Based on the same platform as that of the Brio, Amaze, and Mobilio, the BR-V measures 4,455 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,660 mm (10 mm more than Mobilio).
The design is based on Honda’s “Active Solid Motion” philosophy and borrows most of the design cues from the Mobilio MPV. The front fascia, however, has an aggressive design with a large chrome slat grille to give it a wide look, blacked-out projector headlamps and a beefy bumper design with fog lamps which has a chrome outline and a skid plate. On the side, the BR-V gets plastic body cladding on the wheel arches, and coming to the rear-end, the taillamps connect all the way from left to right, which Honda calls connected taillamps, kinda looks cool and reminds you of Kia Sportage. The rear also gets a large chrome garnish on the license plate housing and also gets a skid plate. The BR-V has a ground clearance of 210 mm and 16-inch alloy wheels to further enhance the SUV look.
The BR-V will be offered with two engines and two transmission choices. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol puts out 117 bhp and 145 Nm of torque, and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel develops 98 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The 6-speed manual gearbox is available with both petrol and diesel choices, but the CVT is restricted only for petrol. These are the same engines that do duty in City and Mobilio. While the Mobilio comes with a pinion-mounted setup, the BR-V’s power-steering is column mounted. The steering automatically corrects its position while taking turns or cornering.
The BR-V will come in 6 color options (3 metallic colors) namely, Taffeta White, White Orchid Pearl, Carnelian Red Pearl, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Urban Titanium Metallic, and Golden Brown Metallic.
Being the first and the only 7-seater in the segment, the key features of the BR-V include a start-stop button, paddle shifters, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, roof-mounted AC vents, Bluetooth connectivity, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and power-folding ORVMs. On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags as standard across the model range and ABS+EBD is standard in the diesel trims.
The BR-V has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 15.4 kmpl on the manual petrol version, while the petrol CVT returns 16 kmpl. The diesel manual on the other hand returns 21.9 kmpl. Cargo capacity measures at 691 litres when 3rd row is folded down.
