U.S.-based startup Rivian has revealed this R1T, an all-electric pickup truck that the company claims to be the first of its kind.
What makes it more interesting is its design, which is a combination of futuristic elements with a typical pickup truck body. The R1T measures 5,475 mm in length, 2,015 mm in width and 1,815 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 3,075 mm and the ground clearance is at 360 mm.
Since it’s a pickup truck, I think we should talk about its practicality first. As you can see in the pictures, there’s no shortage of space. The frunk volume measures 330 litres. There’s even a 350 litre ‘Gear Tunnel’ to lock away your fishing equipment, skis, golf bags and whatever you could possibly fit in it.
Also, notice the bed which has a port to fill-up compressed air should you need to, and three 110-volt charging outlets. A full-size spare wheel is neatly concealed beneath the bed.
The designers have gone for a minimalistic, utilitarian approach for the interiors too. You probably wouldn’t notice the air vents unless someone tells you where they are, because the displays will grab all your attention. A 15.6-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard while the driver has a 12.3-inch display all for himself.
At the rear, the passengers get a small display at the end of the center console for their climate control settings, and they can also enjoy the panoramic glass roof. According to Rivian, the materials used inside, including the wood, colors and texture are inspired by the nature.

Power
The R1T has four electric motors, one at each wheel, developing a total of 750 hp. When equipped with a 180 kWh battery pack, Rivian claims a range of 400+ miles or about 644 km. There are also 135 kWh and 105 kWh packs on offer. No information on the charging times just yet.
Apparently, the R1T can accelerate from 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 3 seconds. It can carry a payload of 800 kg and can tow 5,000 kg. The pickup truck can also wade through a 1 m depth of water.
The Rivian R1T carries a starting price tag of $61,500 after Federal Tax Rebate. Pre-orders require a deposit of $1,000. Production is expected to begin in 2020.
